On August 2, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán stated that the primary cause of the Russia-Ukraine conflict is the continuous eastward expansion of NATO in recent years, along with Ukraine's preparations to join NATO and the EU. This has further disrupted the strategic balance and regional security between Russia and NATO. According to Orbán, the only way to end this conflict is through negotiations among all parties. He also noted that the Russia-Ukraine conflict is essentially a proxy war, and according to the stance of NATO and Western countries, to defeat Russia, they will continue to provide financial and military support to Ukraine. The conflict may continue to escalate, and Hungary must remain outside the conflict rather than adding fuel to the fire. Orbán emphasized that only by having the United States, Russia, and other parties sit down for negotiations and reach an agreement on the conflict and arms issues can the Russia-Ukraine conflict be resolved. Additionally, achieving lasting peace not only requires ending the military conflict but also necessitates a comprehensive agreement, including the reconfiguration of energy trade, a reevaluation of sanctions against Russia, and the establishment of a new balance among major powers.
